Gulf Oil Spill
Sue Nawas, with her husband Ray, at right, of Monroe, La., look over the selection at Joe Patti's Seafood Company in Pensacola, Fla. on July 13, 2010. The market, which normally serves a packed house, has only seen customers in waves in recent months. Frank Patti Sr., current owner of the seafood market his father started in the 1930s, says that they have lost about half of their business since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, representing some $750,000 in sales. Due to customer concern, the market currently does not sell seafood from the Gulf of Mexico.
