San Diego Comic-Con
From a portrait series of strong women at San Diego Comic Con
Gloria Goldstein, of San Diego, Calif., cosplays as Wonder Woman. "When I was growing up [Wonder Woman] was the only female super hero we had," said Goldstein. "We want to have a mirrored perception of reality, but that's not always the case in cosplay and comics or even the real world.... I see major strides...I'm optimistic that soon during my daughter's life we'll have a female president. I think all realms are reflecting the changes we need to see, little by little.... Women are at a point where glass ceilings or walls are being removed. [In pop culture] I don't care too much for what I see as far as role models today, I see too much of what I call 'trash and flash'... I wish there were more real role models out there for teens, I think they will slowly come but now they are just peppered with non-reality."
